Common Causes of Hip Clicking

There are several reasons why you might notice a clicking sound in your hip. Some of the most common causes include:

  • There could be a slight subluxation happening in your hip. What this means is that the bones in your hip might be shifting out of place.
  • There is also a chance that the back edge of the IT band has gotten too thick, causing it to slide over the head of the femur. This could cause a clicking noise.
  • You might also have some loose tissues on the inside of your hip, causing a clicking noise.

It would be our pleasure to help you identify the exact reason why your hip is clicking.

Signs and Symptoms You Might Notice

The signs and symptoms of hip clicking can vary depending on the severity of the condition. Some of the most common symptoms you might notice include:

  • When you bend forward and extend the hip, you might notice an audible snapping noise.
  • You might notice that the pain and discomfort in your hip get worse with activity.
  • You may have a difficult time completing normal activities on your to-do list. You might have a difficult time walking up and down the stairs or going to the mailbox.
  • You might notice a reduction in your range of motion.
  • If you notice any of these issues, it is important to reach out to a chiropractor as quickly as possible.

Assessing Your Treatment Options

If you visit a chiropractor from our team, the first thing we will do is take a look at the alignment. We will take a comprehensive history, do a physical exam, and make sure the joints, ligaments, and tendons in your hip are properly aligned.

Then, we may try to treat hip clicking using a fascial release. We can try to release any fascia that might be tight, alleviating your symptoms. We may also use a technique called friction massage to alleviate tension in the area, which could help you increase your range of motion. We always customize our treatment plans to meet the needs of our patients, so contact us to learn more about how we can help you with this issue
